Our Crowdfunding Groups
The Sooners made it to the College Football Playoff! But that means student journalists with OU Daily and Sooner yearbook followed the team to the Orange Bowl in Florida ... an expensive trip. And that's on top of our constant need to fund student travel to ordinary away games, to news events outside of Norman, and to training events and conferences that help Daily, Sooner and OU Student Media maintain their reputations as some of the best places in America to be a student journalist or ad specialist.
The need
We spent more than $3,000 in the next few weeks to get OU Daily and Sooner sports journalists to the Sooner post-season football games. And that's after the cost is offset by other grants, including from Gaylord College. So there remains a need.
Beyond this current post-season, we'll need $3,000-$4,000 to send our sports journalists to ordinary away games during the football and basketball seasons.
Another $1,500 will let us send at least four OU Daily and Sooner students to the National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C., next fall. That's where we hope our OU Daily and Sooner staffs will accept another Pacemaker Award, often called the Pulitzer Prize of college journalism! Daily has won the Pacemaker eight times, and Sooner has won it 10 times. That places OU Student Media in the top tier of collegiate media programs in the nation, with the likes of Penn, UCLA, North Carolina and, yes, our good frenemies at Texas.
At least $1,000 will help us send at least four Student Media Advertising students to the annual College Media Business and Advertising Managers conference this spring in San Diego. Our advertising students have also become perennial award winners at the CMBAM conference.
That all totals out to more money than our $5,000 goal! So please help us raise more than that! If we are not able to reach our goal, some of our students will have to miss out on real-life experiences. (Let's not let that happen!)

Traveling to conferences and news events is instrumental in helping our students maximize their learning opportunity in OU Student Media. These experiences will help them launch their careers after they graduate.

$20 will help pay for ground transportation for a student at a bowl game or distant news event.
$50 will allow a student photographer to check a bag so she can carry her photo equipment onboard the plane.
$100 will cover most of the registration fee for one student at a training event.
$200 will cover one night at the official media or convention hotel, so our students can maximize their coverage and networking opportunities.
$500 can cover last-minute airfare for a student flying to cover a playoff game or breaking news event.
$1,000 will cover expenses for one student covering the Orange Bowl or the Championship, including airfare and a room at the official media hotel.
