This project will benefit the members of the OU Climbing Team and OU climbing community. The cost of competing and traveling excludes many climbers from joining the University of Oklahoma’s climbing team. There are an average of six to seven competitions per season each costing upwards of forty dollars, as well as the national competition costing over one hundred dollars. Our goal is to partially relieve team members from the cost of competition fees, travel expenses, and lodging by raising $2,500. These funds would strengthen our organization by providing greater accessibility to students of all backgrounds.
The OU Climbing Team competed in the 2019 USA Climbing Collegiate Regional competition on March 30th and took 3rd overall out of all teams in the Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana region. Team members Gentry Cole and Matt Stanford both placed individually, Gentry took 1st in sport and speed and Matt took 2nd in bouldering. In late April the team will be sending 5 men and 3 women to nationals in Tennessee.
