The office of University Community and Vice President Jabar Shumate identify outstanding incoming freshmen and high school students in the Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dallas and Houston school systems. For the third annual George McLaurin Male Leadership Conference, we plan to bring 100 males and 100 females to campus. This year, we will also be implementing a sister program for an initial 50 females. Both programs serve underrepresented, first generation, and low socio-economic students with preference given to those who dream of pursuing engineering, business, and journalism at the University of Oklahoma. There are three stages to this conference:
1. The first stage consists of a three day conference held on OU's campus.
2. The second stage is the Scholarship Banquet.
3. The final stage involves a mentoring and retention strategy plan.
This year, we are thrilled to announce our parallel conference for young women in the Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dallas and Houston school systems. The Sylvia A. Lewis conference will be held the same time as the George McLaurin Leadership Conference April 15th - 17th, 2016.
