Sooner Suit Up is a partnership between JCPenney and the University of Oklahoma giving students the opportunity to purchase professional dress at discounted prices.
The University of Oklahoma is committed to helping prepare our students for career success. Education about dressing professionally is provided, but for many students, obtaining professional attire for career fairs and interviews is not financially possible. As a result, students are either unable to present themselves professionally for job interviews, thereby decreasing their chances of success, or choose to skip important career fairs and opportunities simply because they aren’t prepared to present themselves professionally.
Sooner Suit Up was created in partnership with JCPenney Corporate Office to help provide students with the opportunity to purchase professional attire at greatly reduced rates or though scholarship support. In its inaugural year, over 200 students from various academic disciplines participated in Sooner Suit Up. We anticipate increasing that number by 50% for August 2016. Thirty five OU staff member volunteers executed this event; and we anticipate a need for more volunteers this year. The 2016 Sooner Suit Up will be held on Sunday, August 28 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The timing of this event is optimal for corporate sponsorship as it gives Cintas the opportunity to build a presence and interact with University of Oklahoma students before the major career fair held in September and college recruiting season begins.
As primary sponsor for this event, JCPenney hosts Sooner Suit Up in their Moore, Oklahoma store on a Sunday evening after the store has closed. This allows our students to fill their store for a personal shopping experience. They have agreed to provide our students with discounts on professional attire for up to 70% off retail prices, making professional attire affordable for students.
