Our Crowdfunding Groups
Here at the University of Oklahoma, our Sooner Upward Bound students are some of the most remarkable young people in Oklahoma City. We would like them to start out their first year of college ready to perform through their writing, presentations, and networking in the demanding academic environment. Through this campaign we would like to send each of our 14 senior students to college with their own laptop computer.
Being low-income and living in some of the roughest parts of town can cause a great deal of stress for our students. They deal with hunger, homelessness, and crime in their homes and communities. Many also face pressure to work instead of attending college. Sooner Upward Bound (SUB) inspires our students to strive for success despite these limitations, and we get results!
Two of our seniors are recipients of the OU Presidential Community Scholarship among other awards: Gregoria Arredondo and Nathaniel Bullock. Gregoria was also the first student to be admitted to OU for the 2016-17 freshman class, and SUB participant Manuel Aldana recently received the honor of top Senior forat U.S. Grant High School. All of our students are active in their schools, serving as leaders, tutors, and mentors. Many are also involved in school sports or supplemental academic programs.

In Upward Bound, students learn through real world experiences how to develop resilience, cultivate grit, and open their minds
Students who are admitted into our programs receive a number of benefits that last long past their high school graduation into their first years of college.
Upward Bound activities include:
A six-week summer academic academy on a university campus to experience college life first hand, in addition to character building trips and events
Advanced classes that prepare students for the coming year of high school or college
Educational field trips throughout the school year, including tours of colleges and visits to the state legislature, museums, state and national parks, and other popular educational destinations
Monthly meetings dedicated to college readiness and career development
Volunteering with various nonprofits for community service projects
Quality mentoring toward academic progress and goals during high school and support while attending college.
Sooner Upward Bound is a TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and sponsored by the University of Oklahoma It is available to students from underprivileged backgrounds who attend select high schools in Oklahoma City. We target high-performing students who are achieving high school success, as well as promising students who would benefit from the encouragement of ambitious peers. SUB participants who attend OU for college also receive support from our two other TRIO programs: Project Threshold and the OU McNair Scholars Program.

Every penny counts and $25 dollars is just one more step towards a new laptop for a deserving Sooner Upward Bound student. Our students work hard toward excellence and a laptop is a tool for success.
$50 will contribute to helping a super Sooner Upward Bound student reach their goal of college success and fund nearly 10% of a laptop for a Senior. Every dollar counts toward a super student's success!
This will buy nearly 25% of a laptop for a Sooner Upward Bound student. Every penny counts and every penny goes toward one Sooner Upward Bound student having one more tool to help with their college success.
$225 dollars will buy 50% of a laptop or an entire Chromebook for a Sooner Upward Bound Senior. Make a difference in a deserving student's college career by giving them the tools to excel!
With a donation of $450 dollars you will buy an entire laptop for one Sooner Upward Bound Senior or two Chromebooks. We are working with the University of Oklahoma IT Store to get the best possible computers for the best possible prices. These computers will feature the tools for students to make high-quality video presentations, network with their colleagues and professors, do homework, print homework, and communicate effectively as professional students. This is great way to effect one ambitious student's life and their success.
$1000 buys 2+ laptops or 5 Chromebooks for a deserving Sooner Upward Bound student. We are working with the University of Oklahoma IT Store to find the best value and best quality laptops for our students. Your contribution will make two plus students the proud owners of a laptop that will enable them to perform at par with their colleagues, network with professors, manage their college careers, and create captivating presentations and homework. Your gift of $2500 will buy five plus laptops or 12 Chromebooks for deserving Sooner Upward Bound students. This is the ultimate gift for a deserve, high-achieving student.
