OU-Tulsa Students Face Emergency Needs

Enrollment has grown 30 percent since the fall of 2000, with more than 1,000 students enrolled at OU-Tulsa. These students are pursuing a degree in one of 28 graduate and selected undergraduate programs in the colleges of Allied Health, Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Education, Engineering, Liberal Studies, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health as well as nine graduate certificates. OU-Tulsa is the only campus in the state where these different disciplines are all in one location, providing a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary research and study.

Many OU-Tulsa students are working to juggle an education with jobs and families. The reality is that one financial crisis can make or break an OU-Tulsa student’s ability to keep attending classes. A car stops working, a medical scare happens or a utility bill increases – these unexpected costs can be the last straw for a struggling student. More than a third of college students report housing and/or food insecurity.

The good news is that Sooners Helping Sooners can support students facing extenuating financial circumstances beyond their control.  The program provides assistance to students impacted by natural disasters, theft of personal property, a death in the family, and variety of other circumstances.

A lack of funding due to an emergency situation can easily curtail an OU-Tulsa student’s college ambitions, but Sooners Helping Sooners can help provide hope and emergency during this time. The OU-Tulsa Sooners Helping Sooners program is funded solely through the generosity of our friends, such as you, and community.
