Warrior - Scholar Project

Project Description

The Warrior-Scholar Project at the University of Oklahoma is an initiative to give U.S. military veterans the skills and tools to operate as effectively in college as they do on the battlefield. We provide dedicated tutoring and mentoring to those wishing to make the transition from combat to the classroom.

The objectives of the course are to provide an introduction to the practices they will need for successful participation in classes and to the kinds of independent work required outside of the classroom.

The Project

The Warrior-Scholar Project is unique in that we work exclusively with military veterans from all over the U.S. to become leaders in the classroom and to succeed in college through dedicated tutoring and mentoring. The ultimate goal is to increase veteran graduation rates.

The project consists of an intense two weeks of classes, workshops, discussions, and one-to-one tutoring sessions. One week is humanities focused and one week is STEM focused. All instructors are University of Oklahoma faculty.

Who We Are

The Warrior-Scholar Project is a non-profit addressing the national crisis in veteran’s education by operating intensive on-campus academic boot camps across America’s leading universities.

WSP empowers enlisted military veterans to rediscover and develop the academic skills and confidence needed to successfully complete a rigorous four-year undergraduate program in higher education.

All students accepted into the Warrior-Scholar Project at OU live in the dorms, eat in the campus dining halls, and meet in the classrooms on the Norman campus.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Oklahoma partners with the Warrior-Scholar Project to handle all administrative responsibilities associated with the project.

The Impact

Students who attend the Warrior-Scholar Project at OU are able to more successfully achieve their goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree or even an advanced degree at a four-year institution of higher learning. They are more prepared for college and have laid a foundation which will help them achieve their educational goals.

What Your Gifts Will Do
