About NOMAS - OU
The University of Oklahoma College of Architecture recently reestablished our National Organization for Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS) Chapter with a new and enthusiastic executive team.
NOMAS is a student-driven division of the National Organization for Minority Architects (NOMA), who's mission is to champion diversity within the design professions by promoting the excellence, community engagement, and professional development of its members. On campus, students involved with NOMAS stand to fight discrimination, foster communication and fellowship among other minority students of architecture, and promote this organization with a loud and proud voice.
The NOMAS - OU Chapter hosts many events, volunteer opportunities, social gatherings, and educational trips each year to help our students network with professionals, give back, and enhance our design skills through national design-competitions.
Our Goal
To financially support NOMAS - OU students so that they can participate in the NOMAS Design Conference and Competition in 2017.
NOMA Conference
The NOMA Conference is held annually each fall. It provides students a chance to hear from the industry's most accomplished minority designers, increase our networking skills, collaborate with our peers, grow as designers and better define our paths as architects.
Student Design Competition
The NOMAS Design Competition provides architecture students the opportunity to showcase their talents and design-skills to industry leaders from across the country. The competition provides a high-caliber and "real world" project and presentation experience. This year's competition is to design an African American Cultural and Conference Center in Los Angeles, CA. The competition is typically judged by the AIA National President and other incredible designers of international prominence.
Our Need
NOMAS - OU seeks $2,000 in funding to provide NOMAS students with the financial assistance to attend the 2017 NOMA Conference and participate in the NOMA Student Design Competition. The cost per student is approximately $950, a substantial portion of which is determined by the location of the NOMA Conference. NOMAS Competition fees and expenses (building and shipping a detailed model and high-quality renderings) traditionally range near $1,000 for the team.
