Allied health professionals cover a broad spectrum of medical positions that are intended to assist doctors and nurses in providing the best care for patients. These professionals generally make sure that patients receive adequate attention and access to treatment options. Allied Health is the segment of the workforce that delivers services involving the identification, evaluation and preventions of diseases and disorders; dietary and nutrition services; and rehabilitation and health systems management. Allied health professionals comprise nearly 60% of the healthcare workforce.
Allied health professionals include audiologists, nuclear medicine technologists, diagnostic medical sonographers, dietitians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, radiographers, radiation therapists, and speech language pathologists. These professionals are employed in hospitals, offices, schools, and physician’s clinics. They provide services that pertain to general health and the identification, evaluation, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disorders.
The College of Allied Health “empowers life” and exists to prepare health care practitioners, generate and disseminate research in allied health disciplines, promote interdisciplinary communication and collaboration, and increase the efficient use of resources by a variety of health care providers in order to improve health care.
We hope to raise funds to provide annual scholarships for well-deserving students so they can focus on their education without having to worry about how they will pay for it.
In light of the shifting scope of practice in various healthcare settings, future allied health professionals must be capable of the ever-changing demands placed on healthcare institutions to deliver quality patient care in an interdisciplinary environment.
