In 1917, the OU Army ROTC Program began with a handful of brave leaders.
Over the past century the University of Oklahoma, Army ROTC Program has commissioned outstanding leaders into the United States Army. Our program’s dedication to upholding Sooner Excellence throughout the years has produced countless self-less heroes, to include Medal of Honor Recipient, Major John Lucian Smith (OU Class of ’36) and Fallen Hero, Bob Kalsu (formerly of the OU and Buffalo Bills Football Teams). These brave few set the standards which our modern cohorts of cadets strive to uphold.
Today, the Sooner Battalion is composed of over 100 cadets, all of whom dedicate countless hours to prepare for their future service in our mighty military. These young men and women focus to hone their mental, physical, and scholastic skills through physical conditioning training, classroom instruction, leadership labs, and field training exercises. The hard work of the Sooner Cadets in the program shows, as we boast a 3.36 GPA average across the unit and physical excellence at all levels.
Above all, these Sooners spread goodness, integrity, and compassion to all people they meet in their various military missions around the globe. The ripples of positive influence they exert on the world is invaluable and it is for this reason Sooner Values are known in places such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa, and Asia.
Please help us set the conditions for the next 100 years of Excellence as we continue to produce world class Officers.
We are a family and we are Sooner Strong.
