OU Libraries help keep students’ costs low by providing access to textbooks, technology, and resources. Additionally, OU Libraries Alternative Textbook Grant has saved students over $2M in textbook costs to date by supporting OU faculty in adopting, modifying, and creating open educational resources to replace traditional textbooks.
The Alternative Textbook Program
OU Libraries Alternative Textbook Grants help reduce the cost of course materials by supporting faculty members in the adoption, modification, or creation of openly licensed course content. Please consider supporting this initiative to allow us to save students even more.
Lending Textbooks reduce students’ costs by removing the textbook cost for many general education courses
OU Libraries provide a selection of required textbooks and scientific graphing calculators available free of charge to students. Current textbooks, primarily for general education courses that have the highest enrollments-as well as courses that have comparatively high-cost textbooks are typically available. This approach reaches the greatest number of students possible as well as assists those most impacted by textbook costs.
Give students access to the technology that helps them succeed.
OU Libraries provides a technology lending service in the Bizzell Memorial Library and across our branch libraries. OU students, faculty and staff may checkout a variety of items to support their academic endeavors including laptops, tablets, camera, audio recording equipment, presentation technology, chargers, and accessories and more. Donor support of this program will enable the libraries to keep the technology up to date to ensure students gain experience with the quality of technology they will be expected to use in their professional endeavors, and will enable us to grow the lending collection to support emerging technologies like virtual reality and artificial intelligence.
