Each year, the OU College of Dentistry distributes more than $200,000 in scholarships to both dental and dental hygiene students. Below are two scholarships that are currently in need of additional support.
Class of 1987 Scholarship
This scholarship was created by members of the Class of 1987 as a way to give back to the college and provide a scholarship each year to a current dental student. Members of the Class of 1987 are encouraged to continue their support to ensure the future of the scholarship.
Kurtis Barton Memorial Scholarship
As a tribute to their late classmate, the Class of 2017 created this scholarship in memory of classmate Kurtis Barton, to ensure his commitment to community service, academic excellence and leadership live on at the OU College of Dentistry.
Kurtis unexpectedly passed away on December 7, 2013 due to Addison’s disease, a rare autoimmune disorder. His fellow classmates recall him being academically gifted, an individual of high integrity, a good friend, an active church member – very strong in his faith, and someone who challenged himself to go beyond what was expected. He supported his fellow classmates and was always one to lend a hand when someone was in need.
